Course Information
Description	Basic laboratory experiments supporting theoretical principles presented in CHEM 1311; introduction of the scientific method, experimental design, data collection and analysis, and preparation of laboratory reports.
Prerequisites	Corequisite(s): CHEM 1311.
Learning Outcomes	1.    Use basic apparatus and apply experimental methodologies used in the chemistry laboratory. 2.    Demonstrate safe and proper handling of laboratory equipment and chemicals. 3.    Conduct basic laboratory experiments with proper laboratory techniques. 4.    Make careful and accurate experimental observations. Relate physical observations and measurements to theoretical principles. 5.    Interpret laboratory results and experimental data, and reach logical conclusions. 6.    Record experimental work completely and accurately in laboratory notebooks and communicate experimental results clearly in written reports. 7.    Design fundamental experiments involving principles of chemistry. 8.    Identify appropriate sources of information for conducting laboratory experiments involving principles of chemistry.
Core Objectives	Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication. Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions. Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Students will demonstrate applications of scientific and mathematical concepts. Teamwork: Students will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal and consider different points of view.

PSLO3: Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Applies the manipulation and/or analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions. Identifies mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete a task; uses mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete a task; analyzes how to use the principles, and applies problem-solving skills in mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete a task with correct informed conclusions.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies	1.    Late Assignments will NOT be accepted and will result in a zero, except for students who were absent due to illness and have valid proof. 2.    Only regular scientific calculators are permitted during exams/quizzes. All other electronic devices such as cell phones, iPods, computers, etc. are not allowed. 3.    All assignments need to be turned in through Blackboard (BB). 4. You may only submit an assignment once. A second submission will not be graded.
Attendance Policy	Attendance is required. Missing more than 2 Labs for any reason will result in a failing grade in the course.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
